Why Linux is Cheaper and More Reliable
Posted on May 24, 2008
One of the well-known types of hosting plans at Web Host Galore is Linux. Compared with other plans, Linux is relatively cheaper due to various reasons.
• While there are monthly fees, you are not required to settle setup fees. This means that you are not obligated to pay for the start-up services.
• If ever you have begun to pay for the services that you have availed of and you are not satisfied with what you are getting, you are entitled to get your money back. However, this guarantee lasts only for thirty days after you have availed of the plan.
• You are offered with great reseller privileges, which you can avail of at a low cost.
• There are several Linux hosting plans to choose from, all of which you can upgrade to a wider bandwidth and disk space. Aside from free setup, the domain name is also offered for free.

Web Hosting Defined
Posted on May 17, 2008
The whole concept of web hosting is quite interesting. When you visit a website a web page is shown. This web page is downloaded from the server where web site is hosted to your web browser. A website contains many web pages which are made up of graphic images and texts. These web pages are stored on the server and are downloaded to web browser when somebody needs to view them.
So if you intend to host a website then first thing which you must have is a web host who will be providing you the web space over the server for your website. The host proving this hosting facility is called web hosting company or provider. Once your website is on the server then the users can access it through internet and requested pages will be downloaded to his browser on clicking on the links.
A well established host can provide hosting facility to a number of websites. ‘Hostgator’, a well known hosting provider hosts more than 4 lakh websites on its servers. For this it requires many web servers for hosting these websites. After this these servers are connected to the internet. These servers are kept in a physical ‘data centers’. Since these data centers are needed to be functional all the time so these data centers are made fully secure with 24X7 power-backup.
Proper arrangements are there to protect these from fire. These have virus detection programs and temperature control systems with proper data back-up facility. Arrangements for disaster recovery are also needed for these data canters in case of any major disaster.

Web Hosting Regulations
Posted on April 30, 2008
At base, the court held that a demand for an IP address must be connected with some sort of judicial proceeding, and not a simple subpoena issued by a court without any kind of review. The court stated that the demand for the IP address must “bear some possible relationship†to an investigation. That relationship can be demonstrated by requiring that the subpoena be issued as part of the grand jury process, rather than through a process in which a subpoena may be issued without any demonstration of relevance. The court refused to go further, and require that a subpoena be issued by a grand jury only upon demonstration of probable cause (the standard necessary to issue a warrant).
This decision shows the difference in privacy rights that is developing between state constitutions and the U.S. constitution. Federal courts have routinely held that there is no Constitutionally based expectation of privacy in IP addresses, while state courts are increasingly interpreting their constitutions the opposite way. Like many similar state vs. Federal issues, these different interpretations are ironic since most state constitutions are based on the Federal constitution. However state courts have a long history of interpreting their constitutions differently than the U.S. constitution.
For hosts, this decision reinforces the need to require some sort of service of process prior to disclosing information about your customers. It’s important to note that the ISP in this case, Comcast, was not a party to the suit, and not held to be liable for its response to the defective subpoena. However, what this case does illustrate is the growing body of law supporting customer’s expectation of privacy in information generated by their use of technology.

Yahoo! Small Business
Posted on April 29, 2008
Yahoo! Small Business previously offered its more than 1.5 million customers three different plans with varying disk space, data transfer and email storage specifications, priced at $11.95, $19.95 and $39.95.
The company found the $11.95 hosting plan to be the most popular among customers, and therefore decided to keep that same pricing level intact when it switched over to the unlimited service, says Yalif.
“This latest improvement continues our focus on lead generation,” says Yalif. “We find ourselves guided by the things our customers are telling us matter to them. While this is a competitive space, this was really was customer-driven.”
The service also offers many significant enhancements, including discounts on marketing services, automatic submission of customers’ websites to top search engines, one-step email setup, a lead-capturing tool that instantly alerts business owners via email whenever potential customers submit contact information or request service and expert guidance on how business owners can develop engaging website content.

Dedicated Web Hosting Servers
Posted on April 22, 2008
Dedicated servers are basically computers that have a single function: to host and run the websites you place on them. Unlike shared web hosting where you have to share your disk space, CPU, RAM and other resources with other customers, a dedicated server allows you to host 1 or more of your sites on the machine by yourself. The entire box is basically yours to configure as you see fit.
Dedicated servers are usually either managed or unmanaged. If you go with an unmanaged dedicated server, you usually get to pay a cheaper price, but you have to basically administer the machine by yourself. If there are security fixes for the web server or the operating system on the computer, you will need to apply them yourself. In fact, you will probably need to stay on top of such developments by subscribing to the necessary mailing lists and whatnot for security fixes to the software on your server. You are normally given the root (adminstrator) password to an unmanaged dedicated server. If you require the web host to do anything to your server, you typically have to pay extra for the support service.
Managed dedicated servers are servers where the web host attends to all the necessary updates to your software and maintains the hardware on your behalf. The charges for managed servers are usually higher since you are also paying for the services they provide. Very often, managed servers do not come with root access.

How to Choose a Web Host
Posted on April 18, 2008
Your new website is ready to upload, and now you need a web host. Or perhaps you already have a web host, but uptime and support are lacking. Of the thousands of web hosts to choose from, how do you find one that you can depend on? Know what can go wrong and what to watch out for, and research prospective web hosts carefully.
What can go wrong with web hosting
Too much downtime
Problems happen, and even when they don’t, server maintenance results in a minimal amount of downtime. A dependable web host not only maintains servers well, but also monitors the servers and fixes problems immediately. With the type of web host you want to avoid, however, your site may be down for days.
Features that don’t work
When your email doesn’t work, your business shuts down. Problems with databases and other features can also slow down or stop your business. Most web hosts understand this, but some don’t place a high priority on keeping not only your site online but everything working as well.
Poor support
Dependable web hosts answer tech support questions within hours. Other web hosts, however, have been known to take days. And when those responses come, sometimes they’re canned responses that don’t address the issue.
Poor communication
Support people with good communication skills help keep problems from becoming bigger problems. Being told, “Everything looks fine here, so the problem is solved,” leads to frustration. So is having your site shut down because it used too many resources rather than the web host contacting you about the problem first.

Web Hosting Services
Posted on April 17, 2008
Web hosting services are companies that provide businesses and individuals the opportunity to have their own websites on the Internet. The Web hosting service has a large server or multiple servers that allow them space on the web, and they rent this space to clients who use it to park their domain names on the World Wide Web so that Internet surfers can access them.
Anyone can use a web hosting service if he or she can pay the monthly fee and have a domain name. The domain name provides the URL that people will type into their Internet web browser to be directed to your site. You will have to pay to register your domain name, although some web hosting services may offer free domain name registration as part of a promotion to give you incentive to use their service. If you cannot afford the monthly fee, there are free web hosting services. However, there tend to be serious limitations on how you can operate your website with a free service, and many people find it necessary to upgrade to a paid service if they continue their website for an extended length of time. Another option may be shared web hosting, where a number of people agree to operate their websites off the same server and costs are shared.
